Hand-tufted rugs are made by punching yarn through a canvas with a hand tool, then shearing and backing it, which gives a plush, even pile in a fraction of the time a knotted rug takes and makes tufting the best value in a handmade wool rug. The deep shag pile is the softest option underfoot; check door clearance before placing it in a doorway. The wool pile hides soil well between cleanings and wears slowly, so this is a rug for rooms you actually live in.
